Dedicated Servers are aimed at either website's which require large amounts of resources or large resellers. The specs of the server(s) can vary from essentially desktop hardware servers to fully blown server racks. Generally most Dedicated Servers cost from around £99 a month and upwards.

UKDedicated offer a number of solutions. We have used them for Single Processor Dedicated Servers and were very happy with the service we were provided. Servers are unmanaged so you must know how to troubleshoot basic problems as they may occur but staff were more than willing to help if you do get stuck.
Uptime was 100% for the time we used UKDedicated, we only stopped using UKDedicated when we lost a big client and found it was no longer cost effective to use a Dedicated Server. When on UKDedicated because of where the server was located it made our hosted sites responsive, after moving to a host in the USA we certainly noticed the difference.
Support was again top quality, they even phoned us up when they spotted we may have gone over our allocation of bandwidth (They could have not notified me and made extra money from us going over our bandwidth allocation).
UKDedicated has recently offered us a brilliant deal for a low powered Dedicated Server, so we are going back.
Pros:
- cPanel included in the price
- Servers located in Global Switch 1
- Monitored by staff 24x7
- Excellent coverage and speed in the UK and Europe
- Option of Fully Managed Service
- UKDedicated phoned us to let us know our server was using excessive bandwidth and would go over the allocation, this saved us from going over our allocation
- Even though we were on an unmanaged server, staff did do all they could to help us
- The only Server Provider we have used who have setup cPanel and WHM with DNS Resolvers, Name Servers, configured PHP with SUPHP option and configured daily backups to the local drive
Cons:
- It would be nice for prices to be added to the example servers they have listed
- Running and maintaining a Dedicated Server can be time consuming, if you are not used to managing a Linux/Unix system via SSH or telnet you may want it to be managed
- VAT is not included in the price

* LayeredTech offer a number of solutions. We have used them for around three years for Single Processor Dedicated Servers and were always happy with them. Servers are unmanaged so you must know how to troubleshoot basic problems as they may occur.
The uptime was rock solid, we came back to LayeredTech several times after trying cheaper alternatives and finding either they would put their prices up or they would be unreliable in terms of uptime. Support is very quick and if you suspect issues their technicians are onsite to provide diagnostics. They now provide detailed stats in their customer panel which includes an integrated ticketing/billing system as well as a monitor for the network port so you can see what is going on.
LayeredTech servers are hosted in the US but their Savvis backbone proved fast for the UK and Europe. I do recommend LayeredTech as they are worth paying slightly more for. We liked support, a hard drive failed on one of our first servers and LayeredTech replaced it within a few hours and even helped restore sites from our backup drive.
Update: We have seen a few complaints on the WHT forums in regards recent service, it also appears LayeredTech no longer host in Savvis and are moving servers to their Databank suite. Please be aware our review is based on our experienced in the Savvis Datacentre.
Pros:
- A wide range of servers in different data centres from $100 a month (Around £62 a month). Please note this price does not include cPanel!
- Cheaper in most cases than ThePlanet
- Details customer panel with integrated server stats, support calls and billing
- LayeredTech normally have Special Offers during periods such as Christmas, look out for these on their forum as you may get a better deal or a free upgrade
- Several backbones provide good coverage for Europe
- We had a SCSI drive replaced within 40 minutes when it failed on our server, LayeredTech then helped reinstall and then restoring our most recent backup from the secondary drive
Cons:
- LayeredTech tend to normally be more expensive than other dedicated providers, but LayeredTech provide a better service overall
- Running and maintaining a Dedicated Server can be time consuming, if you are not used to managing a Linux/Unix system via SSH or telnet you may want it to be managed
- cPanel is an additional cost (Although this is fairly normal)
- No UK/Europe Dedicated options yet
