When your website gets larger or starts to use complex PHP/CGI scripts you may want some extra power. A VPS will give you your own separate server with allocated resources, this gives you the option of running additional programs other than cPanel but means you have to administrate the server. This can take up a lot of time and you may wish to pay a bit more for a managed VPS, that way if there are any issues or requests the provider will deal with these without charging you.
If you are becoming a web host I would first recommend using a Reseller account as to start with you will probably not need the extra processing power or memory allocation.
cPanel has recently released a more VPS friendly version, its cheaper and contains several replacement packages to help streamline the server. We have run on several VPS's and when cPanel for VPS was released it improved performance as well as lowering our monthly bill.

Hostineuro is aimed at the European market who wish to take advantage of cheaper hosting within Europe.
Hostineuro provides basic packages, you will need to rent cPanel at €10 a month and then you will need to apply an image with cPanel installed. The setup can take a while, this does however mean Hostineuro is very cheap! Although for the most of the time the service provided was excellent we had a few issues one being a move of their servers which caused a major headache for us.
Pricing Overview:
Pros:
- Its cheap
- Support is reasonable for an unmanaged product
- Large allocation of hard disc space, memory and bandwidth
- We have found the VPS very fast
Cons:
- Unmanaged VPS
- No backups
- We had one instance where the machine froze and it took an hour for it to be restarted
- Hostineuro moved from Germany to the Netherlands early 2009, in which time our staff were not around causing disruption to our sites
- Inability to set up automatic payment for VPS and cPanel licensing
- No SLA

modVPS is aimed at those who run resource intensive website's such as large community forums a VPS will help improve the execution time of your software.
These plans come with dedicated ip addresses which obviously is required if you wish to utilise SSL Certificates and software to automate the selling of cPanel accounts. Although they are Fully Managed you must know how to use WHM and cPanel to make use of it.
Pricing Overview (Updated 11 July 2009):
Pros:
- The VPS is fully managed
- cPanel is included in the cost
- Also includes Fantastico and RVSkin in the cost
- One install of either ClientExec included in the cost
- Uptime SLA of 99.9%
- Daily Backups
- Continual investment in better servers and infrastructure
Cons:
- When first started there was an issue with Disk I/O. This was largely resolved when the company invested in better equipment and swapped out their Sata2 7k rpm drives and replaced them with Serial ATA 15k rpm drives (Shows the company is willing to correct any issues in their infrastructure)

ConnectSwitch is aimed at the European market.
ConectSwitch provides basic packages, you will need to rent cPanel at £10 a month and then ensure an image with cPanel is selected. The staff at ConnectSwitch will actually install this manually. The setup did take a while, unfortunately the knowledge base is a bit sparse and I when setting up WHM you need to know what DNS resolvers to use! A few months into the service although service was good the company was purchased. ConnectSwitch is now no longer recommended due poor support and the company not honoring contracts in regards pricing.
Pros:
- Servers have either RAID 1 or RAID 1-0
Cons:
- Unmanaged VPS
- Only 1 ip address included with the package
- No billing software included
- No Backups
- No SLA
- Company recently brought out
- Support from the new company owner has been poor
- Poor communication
- No ability to access VDS Manager so unable to carry out basic tasks without contacting support and waiting until 1AM in thr morning for a responce
